Bodies Like Ours has created two handouts for different audiences.

On the front side, both versions show our logo, web address and our moniker: "Support and Information for People Born with Atypical Genitalia"

On the reverse side, both begin with this information:

5 children a day undergo unnecessary cosmetic genital surgery, in the United States alone.

1 in 2,000 children are born with genitals that are neither clearly male nor female

For over 5 decades, the medical and societal solution to these births has promoted shame, secrecy and isolation

Then the one we refer to as our INFORMATIONAL Handout continues:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT INTERSEX

Genitals that look different are not life-threatening and don't need to be fixed with surgery.

Peer support and counceling are vital for healthy body-image and self-acceptance.

Bodies Like Ours provides a welcoming place to meet others, exchange information and ideas through a peer-supported online community.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Talk about the issue. Tell 5 people you know. Ask them to find out more.

The other handout we call ACTIVISM and the text continues:

IT IS TIME THAT WE STOP THIS GENDERCIDE!

Bodies Like Ours is working to help change the current concealment-based protocol that encourages early surgical intervention and deceit. This course of medical treatment should not be acceptable in a modern, tolerant society.

The new patient-centered protocol encourages and accepts our uniqueness without early surgery, and with understanding, counseling, and compassion.

Please help further our goals by taking the following actions:
Talk about the issue. Tell 5 people you know. Ask them to also speak out.

Sponsor workshops and speakers to learn more.

Adopt a resolution within your organization to STOP early genital surgeries.

Just PM or email a mailing address to either myself or Dandara. Actually email is better that way it can be printed and used as a mailing label. You can use the email at the bottom of the page for webmistress (it comes to me) or just click on Dandara's name on one of her posts and you'll get an option to email her.

One note, we need to order another batch of them from the printer and so there may be a delay for a couple of weeks.
