My endo just ordered a pituitary MRI for me, on the off chance it shows something helpful. Anyone out there have any experience with this? What could it show?

I took the test last weekend. Forty minutes of loud noises in an enclosed environment, interrupted by a shot of gadolinium to help make the pictures prettier. Not the worst thing I've ever experienced, but not recommended entertainment either.

Did they say what they were looking for? I've only had MRI's for some broken bones I had...now that I am full of metal they need to find new ways to diagnose me! Let us know if they find anything! I joked that they wouldn't find anything in me ;-)

I really think your doctor should have told you what she/he is looking for. Personally I hated it when they ordered tests and imaging, without telling me what reasons they had for wanting them. I discovered that in several cases, it was to satisfy their curiosity about Intersex conditions. I feel they should pay for such tests 'themselves', and we should be honestly informed.

Sorry, I just do not trust doctors at all. I have good reason not to.

I've had a pituitary MRI twice. There are some IS conditions caused by pituitary irregularities. In my case, however, they were trying to figure out why my Prolactin levels were so high. High Prolactin levels along with high Estrogen levels can be the result of a pituitary tumor. It turned out that my high Prolactin levels were caused by my high estrogen levels. The problem was my estrogen prescription was way too high.

I figured they're looking for a tumor or something else odd, but I'm not too worried. I think if something was amiss there, there would be lots of other signs by now.

I see my endo this week to go over the MRI and see what's up. Incidentally, they finally checked my "female" hormone levels, and those were normal. So we're grasping at straws, basically.

I hate when medicine doesn't have the cajones to admit they don't know what the flock is going on.
