HRC Poll Results on Transgender

We all fear hatred, consternation, calumny and persecution by society at large. Is there anyone who hasn't lost sleep over fear of social rejection? But, is it true? Are the peasants outside the door with pitchforks? Well, Human Rights Campaign asked the nation that question about transgendered people - our kissing cousins. Can we get some kind of idea about how people REALLY feel about us from this poll about them? I think our numbers would be better. Check out HRC.org for the whole story.

Here's the synopsis from the HRC Quarterly Report:
77% of Americans believe that transgender students should be allowed to attend public school.

68% believe that the country needs hate crimes laws to protect
transgender people.

67% agree that is is possible for a person to be born as one sex, but inside feel like another sex.

61% of Americans believe the country needs laws to protect
transgendered people from discrimination.

57% incorrectly believe that it is not legal to fire people just
because they are transgender.

53% believe it is "all right" for a person to be transgender, while
37% believe it is "wrong".

48% of Americans would have "no problem" working with a transgender person, while only 8% said they would not be willing to.
