Sunshine, I used licorice for a short time but I was antsy about
long-term effects (liver? kidneys?). One person on a list I subscribed to ended up in the hospital because zie took mega-doses. A happy outcome, though, was that zie hooked up with an endo, and that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

I tried Saw Palmetto for a time but for my purposes Vitex helped me more. Then after my endo (later) had me on low doses of PreMarIn for about a year, I started using Saw Palmetto again, to counterbalance the effects of testosterone. I told my endo and he switched me to an estradiol patch and a testosterone inhibitor.

That effectively ended my experiments with herbals (almost, anyway).

Thumbs up palmetto

Thanks Uriela:

My bloods tests for CAH have always been perfect in regard to the cortisone dose and surpression of any androgens. According to one Endo, "It looked super ..super." I have no trust for these people and I don't think that they really can help. All the cortisones, when you want to be real about it just don't make things better. It's because of this that I have manifested an interest in herbal remedies. My new job takes me through a Indian Reservation and I wonder if they still utilize Medicine men? because I don't think it could hurt and I know basied on my readings about the Indian culture that they would treat someone with CAH and natural genital (vs. standard) with respect. It would be my hope that they wouldn't snicker like the Western Medical Community.

Aimee, I don't know if this would help, but I copied it off aeons ago, when I befriended someone on the web who claimed to have been gender-dysphoric by virtue of being a DES kid. Me? I am diagnosed as a "normal male" with GID. However, my endo recently told me that when I came in my testosterone level was higher than the "normal male" and all his efforts with hormones on me (low-dose as it was, he still expected more) was to bring it within the "normal male" range. I asked him to look at what I thought was unusual scarring on the underside of my penis and he said, "It looks like the normal raphe, doesn't it?" Well, I don't know, because I don't subscribe to Playgirl magazine and I have never examined penises in detail. We'll see how my hormones are now, after my operation on Friday.

Whoops! This message may be too long already! I was afraid of that!

Hi Uriela,

Because of the security level I have set here, you can't post attachments. However, if you want to send the attachment to me via email ( betsy at bodieslikeours dot org) I'll be glad to put it into the main site so you can link to it.

What's GID?

Glen,

GID is an acronym for "gender identity dysphoria". In other words I am transsexual.

I've also always thought that I was intersex, but there is no special category for that delusion.

Talking Thanks

Dear Uriela:

Thanks so much for the information about the herbals. It was exactly what I was looking for. I'm going to print it and discuss it with my Endo. He seems open to thinking outside the box. Maybe, I can take less hydrocortisone in conjunction with something listed in the article.

I wish you well on your journey to finding true peace.

Aimee
