children's book

This query is from a well-known children's author. I'm posting the query here for your suggestions.

Quote:
I'm an established children's book author and script writer (see attached resume). I am currently working on a young adult novel with an intersexed teen as the main character. I have read extensively from ISNA's website, havve purchased a videotape (Mani's Story) and Vol. 2, No. 5 of Crystalis. Now I would like to interview a health professionals in New York City and intersexed individuals - particularly those who have not had surgery and have made the decision to live interexed. I will also need a consultant to proof the outline and book. Could you make some recommendations for people who might be willing to talk to me? I am very excited about this project and have already begun an outline for the novel.

She's a very well-known author so I suspect she probably has someone she works with but I'll send her contact information to you. Let her know it came from me.

i am really wary about this author's project (and really, any author who wants to "give us a voice" when so few of us have been able to do that ourselves, yet!), and would like to ask her about it. even if i only end up giving her a piece of my mind (very politely, of course).

although i'm pretty offended by her preference of talking to a non-igm-survivor (perhaps an issue i can raise with her), i do qualify...so i'd like to be put in touch.

i promise to be cordial and not (deliberately) lose us any would-be allies, but i will give my honest opinions and she may not like them.

She's a really well known author so I have few fears about her motivation. However, with your okay, I'll be glad to send your contact info to her, Blue or vice versa.

The character she is trying to develop is a teen negotiating the all the potholes of adolescence (sp?) with a body that is different from his or her peers.

Further to Go

Betsy,
A trip to the ISNA website and a few short films are not enough to have a command of the subject to write for adults let alone children. It's a commendable project. However, she needs a lot more help and resources from us if she's going to do something good. It's easy to do more damage than good if you know just enough to be dangerous......

Jim,

I understand your concern fully. However, please note that this author is very well recognized and has done many projects where the focus is about kids who are "different". These projects include both after school television specials, full-length features, and children's books. If you would like to write me privately, I will be willing to tell you who it is--I chose not to post that information here because of who she is and I didn't want to comprimise her project. You're a dad...it wouldn't surprise me if you are familiar with her work.

Additionally, she is searching out first hand accounts in order to get it right. I would be more concerned about someone who writes something and then comes to us asking if we like it.
