A funny thing happened to me at work the other day..........

I am a logistics coordinator consultant in security for several real estate enterprises across the States. What that means, is that I deal with just about every walk of life there is out there, and have to know and understand the people I hire for the firms.

I had this guy in my office a week ago looking for a job. In the course of his interview, I became aware that this person grew up in Texas, with an attitude that is obviously inherited regarding gay and lesbian, and anything he deemed not like him or "normal.
I think this is called your classic textbook "Redneck".

I let him talk for quite awhile, while he was rambling on about who he would and wouldn't work with, and why: "Some people just ain't right" as he so insistantly put it.

My patience with his discrimination and ignorance lasted about 30 minutes, however, I didn't get angry, I just smiled.

Now, I wear a suit and tie to work, and present myself in the best manner possible for my job, so I simply stood up, thanked him for his time to come in for the interview, but informed him that there was no way in hell I would hire him. He acted surprised, and asked why, and this was my explanation:

I grew up in El Paso, Texas and at least grew up with an open mind. I have friends that are lesbian, gay, and some good friends that have medical issues that diagnose them as IS, CAH, AIS, and so forth. And I explained what the medical terms meant. I further informed him that they have feelings, hearts, lives and loves and are quite educated. And that I found him offensive with an opinion over something he has no clue about.

I then informed him to think about the possibility that he has at some point in his life, shaken hands with "those people" but never knew it.

The interview was quietly over, and he seemed embrassed when he left.

And I set back in my chair, feeling quite proud of my beliefs and my friends, too many to mention, BUT EVERYONE on this site.
