Just wanted to support and encourage

I saw the same documentary about intersex, and how people born intersex are treated by the medical community.

It turned my stomach what happened to a little child on that show, and I am pretty disturbed by it. They just forced a major decision on this cute little kid. How is that legal?

I have to say I totally dont understand why the medical community encourages unnecessary surgery. I dont know what kind of health risks are involved in being intersex, but from what I saw on this documentary the health proffesionals were just performing unwarrented surgery for the purpose of putting somebody into a societal category and it was really wrong.

I dont get it, why not just let somebody be who they are. I also read up on the message boards of how individuals were dealing with issues of shame and relationship rejection because of a medical condition. I am beside myself on that one too, I thought there was more tolerance.

I swore up until recently humanity was becoming pretty open minded, I guess there is a long way to go.

Thank you for being outraged

The 50 year old protocol of surgery is based on an outdated idea that society can change a person by changing their genitals. It has taken just as long for us to emerge from the shame, secrecy and isolation to challenge society's view of what is "normal".

We are desperately in need of support from people like yourself that care and see the unjustness of the way we have been treated.

PLEASE tell anyone you know about this issue. Change and acceptance cannot occur until we have understanding from everyone. On behalf of all of us, my thanks for making a difference.
