If you are in the area, maybe a Sunday destination:

Intersexuality: First Stop the Harm
Presented by Bodies Like Ours
Betsy Driver, Cofounder and Outreach Director
Janet Green, Cofounder and Executive Director

At least one in 2000 children is born with notably atypical sexual anatomy .
. . otherwise known as an intersex condition. . ("Hermaphrodite" -- though
at times used interchangeably with intersex, is now considered a stigmatizing
and misleading word).

Intersexuality: First Stop the Harm . . . will communicate the critical
importance of ending the secrecy and the medically unnecessary genital
surgery that has been the routine standard of care for intersex people. A
new, patient centered protocol for dealing with intersex newborns will be
provided. This approach includes that full and accurate information be given
to parents and that appropriate referrals be made, including to support
groups of adult intersex people.

An accompanying video produced by the Intersex Society of North America
(ISNA), "Total Patient Care" will be shown. Featured in the film are
experts, medical professionals, an adult with intersex and parents of an
intersex child.

We had a great workshop today in Nyack...the turnout was great considerting those boys in tight green pants hitting people on a football field at the same time.

We got to meet another member of Bodies and her partner (Yea!)

We educated 38 people about intersex and asked each of them to Tell5! people they know about what they learned.

We got a couple of donations (another Yeah!)

And we got some guests fired up enough to host workshops in their own community.

If you are interested in having a workshop within your community, let us know and we'll show you how.

Exclamation Nyack workshop

Hi Betsy
I am the member of Bodies that you speak about
and I just need to tell you how great you and Janet were
The workshop kinda touched me in different ways
First I felt as if you were up there telling my life story and it was a
funny feeling to hear you talking about me in a way but when you
spoke of the examinations - that kinda brought back bad memories - My partner is so supportive and she was very impressed with you and Janet also - I remembered that I responded to you in the post "Shouting into an empty canyon"
so if you look back at that post - you will kinda remember who I am - My partner and I did our jobs of handing out 5 brochures to different people and most of them kinda heard of "intersexed"
but were not quite educated on the subject so we informed them the best that we could and I felt wonderful about doing that
I am basically a very shy person so that was a momumental effort for me but it gave me a great feeling inside
Thanks again for all that you do - may god bless you
Connie

Great to see you here too Connie. I didn't want to violate your privacy by telling the world it was you :o who we had the pleasure of meeting. I'm glad you clarified it for everyone...and it was great meeting you. Last night when I got home, I dug up all your posts and went "oh yeah"...it made me quite happy putting the posts to your face and voice in person.
