Question silly question

So if women can go to a gynecologist, why isn't there a specialty called androcologist? Would IS people see a hermaphrocologist? Or an intersexologist?

Dopey minds want to know!

Smile GYNECOLOGIST

I go to a gynecologist.

In regard to CAH, the females only have female chromosomes and only a uterus with two ovaries.

The term intersex comes to play is when some females with CAH happen to have the virilization in the external genital area and even that is in different degrees which is called the prader scale.

Some women with CAH have a typical looking external genital area whereas others might have an enlarged clitoris and some might be mistaken for boys at birth because of the extreme virilization. For me, the later is the only one that could fit in the medical definition of intersex. The one thing we all have in common is typical female internal organ and hence we go to the gynecologist just like any other woman.

I have the " V ". but i do not have and enlarged clit or any male genitals. I do however have body hair.... I know your body changes every seven years. so they say, but could stress make the condition worse? Example: never had the hair and since I moved away from my family it has been getting worse... I haven't found any remover to help it... They all give me horrible rashes. Anywho, thanks for ready this!

Smile Hi Amy

Dear Amy:

I'm not a doctor and I can only write about my own personal experience. I was born with simple virilizing CAH (SVCAH) it means I'm not a salt waster (SWCAH). Doctors figure out SVCAH from SWCAH by blood test and they are able to tell what went "wrong" on what gene/missing enzyme...gee where did I lose that enzyme ? Silly me he hehe. Most people with CAH have 21-hydroxylase deficency, I have 11-hydroxylase deficency. This just means that things went "wrong" farther along the metabolic pathway and it has something to do with higher blood pressure when I don't have enough cortisone to help my body.

From my experience not taking cortisone med (Hydro, pred or dex) or being perscribed to much med does play a role not only in physical health but emotional heath as well.

Was it that the hair started when you moved away from your family or was that the time that you got away from taking the med ?

You might also want to look at the Late Onset CAH message board. Many people write on there about feelings of stress and excessive hair.

I've been through stress management counseling and I also find that dancing or going out for a 20 min walk helps with stress.

Good Luck,

Aimee
