Biological exuberance

Hi there!

IŽd like to recommend a book named "Biological Exuberance. Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity" by Ph.D. Bruce Bagemihl. The book is about the great variations in gender and sexuality that exists in the animal kingdom, and there are several pages dealing with intersexed conditions among animals...

So... to claim, which some doctors do, that intersexed conditions are some kind of deviant "diseases" or "defects" are really misleading, as there are in fact a number of intersexed conditions, that are quite common in nature - as well as homo/bisexuality among animals!

Absolutely agree. Moreover- when look in PubMed it is a lot of papers about animal homosexuality for example was one paper desctibing such relationships among fruit flyes drosophilas.
Before I thought that it is possible only for higher animals... but insects!!! :D

Oh yeah...we really are everywhere!

Glenn posted some time back about a study that was done on intersex finches.

Fish...hermaphroditic often due to external hormones in water. Those get there from wastewater.

Heck...my cats are lesbians and intersex. And my dog's best friend is a big ol black dog. She gets really sad when she doesn't see her for a few days and her friend does too.
