Medical
Care
From birth, our course of
medical treatment overlaps several disciplines. Some of us are so
traumatized by our treatment as children, that medical care as an
adult is neglected. It takes many years to find a doctor or endocrinologist
that we feel understands the many facets of our well being.
We
maintain a small list of compassionate physicians knowledgeable
about our uniqueness. If you have a request for one, please let
us know and we will try to find someone to fit your needs. If we
don't personally know anyone in your area, it is likely that those
we are in contact with can make a suggestion. Most importantly,
they are not advocates of early genital surgery. The list is small,
but growing (or at least trying to grow!).
If you know of a medical
provider who fits this criteria, please send it along. Inclusion
of a physician on this list is neither an endorsement nor a reference.
It is strongly urged that you research your own unique needs when
choosing a physician.
No
matter what doctor you see, you may want to print out
a copy of the GLMA (Gay Lesbian Medical Association) Guidelines
for Creating a Safe Clinical Enviroment for Lesbian, Gay,
Bi, Transgender
and Intersex Patients (download the PDF document from glma.org)
and take it with you to your next appointment to share with your
medical provider.
